I’m Leyre Cañizares, a Madrid based photographer specializing in capturing love stories and families. I was born and raised in Madrid, although over the past few years I’ve also worked in other countries such as the U.S, the U.K, France, Italy and Greece.

Pregnancy is one of the most special stages in life, a unique moment that you may only experience once. Your body is changing as you create new life, and there’s a beautiful mix of excitement, emotion and anticipation as you wait to meet your baby. It’s also a meaningful chapter as a couple, the last moments before becoming a family of three.

Planning Your Pregnancy Photoshoot in Madrid – Everything You Need to Know

Two weeks turnaround time for your engagement photoshoot in Madrid. Your gallery will be delivered online via WeTransfer or similar. In case you would like to receive your gallery within 24 hours, the extra cost is 70€.

Many times I edit more photos than the number included in your package, and you will be the ones to choose which images you want to keep.In that case, I will send you an online gallery where you can make your selection, but you will always have the number of photos included in your package. If you prefer to keep the full gallery, there is a small additional cost, and you will receive all the edited images (whether that’s 50, 90, 120 or more, as it’s never an exact number. I simply edit all the photos I love from each session).

What season is best for a maternity photoshoot in Madrid?

Every season has its own charm. Spring brings soft colors and flowers, summer offers long golden evenings, and autumn is perfect for warm tones and cozy outfits. Winter can feel very intimate and calm, and it’s also less touristy in Madrid, which makes locations much quieter.

That said, it can be quite cold, especially in December, January and February, so a nice option is to combine an outdoor session with some photos at home or in an indoor space. I’ll help you choose the best option depending on the look you love.

When is the best time for a maternity photoshoot?

The best time for a maternity photoshoot is usually between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, your belly is already beautifully visible, but you still feel comfortable enough to move, walk and enjoy the session. Every pregnancy is different, so we can always adapt the timing to how you feel.

But we are a camera-shy couple!

It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous in front of the camera. Many people tell me before a photoshoot that they’re not natural or that it might feel awkward at first.

My job is to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where everything flows easily. After the first few minutes, that initial feeling disappears and you start focusing on the moment, sometimes even forgetting I’m there.

I always encourage camera shy people to give it a try, it’s honestly much easier and more natural than you imagine.

Do you offer birth photography in Madrid?

It’s not something I’ve been asked for yet, although I do know photographers in other countries who specialize in it.

I’m completely open to it, so if you’re interested in this option, we can absolutely talk about it and plan everything together. The same goes if you’d like photos during the first 48 hours in the hospital with your baby, or a natural, authentic newborn session at home.

What if the weather is bad?

If it rains or the weather isn’t ideal, we can reschedule or adapt the plan. We can also move the session indoors, at home or in a rented space, for a more intimate feel.

And if you’re open to it, a cloudy or rainy day can create a really soft, romantic atmosphere. We can use a transparent umbrella and embrace that cinematic, cozy vibe. I’ll always help you find the best option so the experience stays easy and stress free.

What should I wear for my maternity photoshoot?

I recommend soft, neutral tones and flowy fabrics that highlight your belly in a natural and elegant way. Dresses work beautifully, but you can also go for something more casual like jeans and a knit top. You’re welcome to bring a second outfit if you’d like a mix of styles, something more relaxed and something a bit more dressed up.

Can more people join the photoshoot?

Of course. Anyone is welcome to join, your partner, your children, parents, siblings, friends or you can also come on your own.

These sessions are very flexible and all about you and this stage of your life, so we can adapt everything to what feels most special and meaningful to you.

Where do maternity photoshoots take place in Madrid?

Maternity sessions can take place outdoors in beautiful locations around Madrid, like El Retiro Park, the Royal Palace gardens or quieter natural spots. If you’re looking for something a bit more unique and urban, we can also shoot in La Latina or the old streets of Madrid’s city center for a more characterful, editorial feel.

We can also do the session at home or in a rented space if you’re looking for something more intimate. I’ll help you choose the perfect location depending on your style and the season.
